Lolark Kund

Shivala · near Tulsi Ghat

History & traditions

Lolark Kund is a stepped ritual tank associated with the solar deity Lolark Aditya. At Lolark Chhath, families gather here for a ritual bath and prayers for children. The tank’s role in solar worship is distinct from Arka Vinayak, a Ganesh stop recorded at the same wider landmark.

What to see

Look for the tall flights of steps descending to the water. View from a permitted level if the steps are crowded or in use for rituals.

SKANDA PURANA

In the Kashi Khanda

The text explains the name Lolark through the Sun’s eagerness to see Kashi. The Sun then takes twelve protective forms in the city. Its references to Sunday worship and solar observances put the kund into a wider tradition of sun worship.
