History & traditions
Asitanga, the dark-limbed Bhairav, is worshipped in the Vriddhakal precinct. Use Mahamrityunjay Mahadev as the landmark and ask for the smaller Bhairav shrine inside.
Asitanga means dark-limbed. The pilgrimage text names him among the guardians of Kashi, and the field survey identifies his present precinct as Vriddhakal. Ask at Mrityunjay Mahadev for the smaller Bhairav shrine.

PILGRIMAGE CONTEXT
Ashta Bhairav
In the Kashi Khanda’s account of Durga’s victory, eight Bhairavas guard the quarters of Kashi. The field survey links those names to present-day worship sites, some inside goddess or Shiva precincts. Kaal Bhairav is separately honoured as the city’s Kotwal.
