Babu Shiv Prasad Gupta commissioned the temple, and Mahatma Gandhi inaugurated it in 1936, during the independence movement. Its central marble relief is viewed from above, where the elevations, river valleys, and coastlines can be read together. The relief represents the geography understood at the time of its making.
What to see
The main object is a marble relief map of undivided India. Look for the carved heights of mountains and the river valleys.
